Bowls of HOPE

Bowls of HOPE

I volunteered for HOPE which provides services for the survivors of domestic violence. For my service, I helped set up for an event where people paid five dollars and enjoyed a bowl of soup or ten dollars and they got a souvenir bowl to take home and also a bowl of soup. They also had a celebrity bake sale where baked goods were auctioned off. All the profits made went to help the organization.
During the time I was volunteering, I helped set up the tables and put up shirts around the room made by survivors of domestic violence. After the tables were set up, I helped in the kitchen by setting up bread on platters. While the event was going on, I helped by making sure the bread was stocked and servings the soup. When we would switch who was serving, I walked around and cleared the tables of any dirty bowls and silverware. At the end of the night, to help clean up, I helped by putting the centerpieces in the bins and taking out the trash. I also re-folded the shirts to go back in the bin and put the information that was out away.
I feel as though volunteering was a good way to learn about an organization that I had never heard of before. It allowed me to meet people who worked for the organization and hear what HOPE was all about and the different things that they do to help people in need.Volunteering for this organization is a way to show survivors of domestic violence the support they have and the people that are willing to be there for them in a time of need.
