Chicago Park District

On June 1st, I went to my home town Chicago and volunteered at the Park District that's in my community. Every time I go home I make sure I go and help out with the children. While at the park district I worked with children from the age of 6 to age 15. I noticed a lot of things why I am there. At the park district there are children who have a disability and also children who parents are struggling at home. Some parents send their children to the park district dressed in good clothes while the other parents are struggling trying to afford shoes to put on their children feet. There are some children who are sent to the park district who bring tears to my eyes. Those children are being teased because he or she do not fit in with their group of friends or because of the clothes they have on. One day I was sitting down talking to a group of 14 year old teens and I were explain to them that you cannot judge a person because of how he or she looks because you will never know what that person is going through at home if you are not in his or her shoes. I volunteer at the park district at less two times whenever I go home. Going back to my community and helping others is what I have a passion for and that is why I choose the field (FAMILY SERVICE). The park district has a big impact on the community because this is a place where children can go to on a daily basis to stay out of trouble and also to get involve with different activities. This assignment helps me focus more on my community and how children are teased because of how he or she looks. This was a great experience overall it helped me get more involve in my community back at home.
